"For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: And they shall spring up as among the grass as willows by the water courses, One shall say, I am the Lord's; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord, and surname himself by the name of Israel. Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them show unto them. Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any."
Isaiah 44:3-8
The main point of today's sermon was this: the amount of God's spirit and blessing that he gives to us depends on how much we are thirsting and desiring him. What are we truly thirsting for? Is it the praise of men, wealth, fame, things, etc? What tree are you sitting under for shade which keeps you from truly thirsting after God?
Think about this. We all need and desire physical food and drink in order to live right? Pretty much the only time that we don't desire sustenance is when we are sick. So if we are not hungering and thirsting after God, then we must be spiritually sick!
So now on the practical level, we need to identify what is keeping us from thirsting after God and by his grace eliminate it. Because what is more important than knowing God and learning more of him?
So what will happen when we begin to passionately and desperately thirst after God and He fulfills his promise in Isaiah 44? Psalm 67 says this,
"God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. That they way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations. Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth. Selah. Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us. God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him."
What are you thirsting for?
